This site contains information on art in the public realm and although Art in the Open provides other dedicated services for London, can be used by all.

Overall the site looks at how art can successfully be part of our experience of public places with research into models of commissioning, good practice and national and international exemplars. It takes a broad understanding of the public realm and the role of art and artists working with others in our public spaces.

This site is split into two sections: an introductory section to help orientate you and a more in-depth section focused on the commissioning process. You can navigate between the two sections through the top bar at the left of the screen.

The Commissioning Guidance section is intended for those interested in working with art in the public realm and those who are already engaged. The drop-down menus work from left to right giving you more detailed information as you go deeper into the process. You can find short cuts to information by searching by your professional area on the right.

Research into London’s opportunities, undertaken by Art in the Open, is also available through the top right buttons. It explores areas pertinent to London’s urban development and policy where art can play a role.
